Ueda says "Hello."

Greetings! And welcome to Ueda 上田.

Ueda is one of the largest cities in Nagano with a population over 160,000. With the city's background deeply rooted in samurai history, the wayward traveler and the wanderlust will discover a city rich in Japanese history, and proud citizens embracing their past. Welcome to the real Japan; welcome to Ueda.

Trivia: 上(ue) means 'above.'   田 (ta-- or da, in this case) means 'rice fields.'

So 上田 translates to 'Above the Rice Fields.'
